A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON A HONG KONG LANDMARK

The Golden Egg.
In a new light.

An idea for a shared moment of light, innovation and celebration at Hong Kong Science Park.

01 / THE VISION

A landmark.
A living canvas.

The Golden Egg is already a symbol of ideas, discovery and the future. What if, for one shared moment, its distinctive form became a canvas for a new story?

Light Art is exploring a projection-mapping experience for a proposed 2027 anniversary occasion — a celebration shaped around the building, the water and the people gathered together.

The water-facing side turns the Golden Egg and its reflection into one connected canvas: a stage for light, imagination and discovery.

INSPIRED BY HONG KONG INNOVATION

Local ideas.
Infinite horizons.

From lunar robotics to space-based Earth observation, Hong Kong research can inspire a story that reaches beyond the horizon. This is one creative direction to explore together.

03 / THE APPROACH

Designed for
this place.

Begin with a focused, water-facing projection from across the lake. One or several projectors can be considered to balance brightness, coverage and budget while keeping a considered footprint.

A wider presentation can be explored as a separate option. Final coverage, positioning, brightness and visual treatment depend on site assessment and testing.

04 / THE PRESENTATION

One experience.
Different possibilities.

The duration can be shaped around the occasion. Select a scenario to see what each would mean for planning.

A moment to come together.

A focused presentation around a single event day. Installation, rehearsal and show timing would be developed around the venue's schedule.

Indicative scenarios for discussion. Running dates, show frequency, scope and budget remain to be confirmed.

BRIGHTNESS / A CREATIVE COMPARISON

One canvas.
More light.

Overlapping projectors can add light to the same area. Explore the idea below; the right configuration will balance the desired impact with the available budget.

Stacking builds light on the same surface. Extending the image across a wider area would require a different arrangement.

2 PROJECTORS / ILLUSTRATIVE

Artistic illustration: the same concept image is digitally adjusted to suggest different levels of light. It is not a calibrated simulation, photograph or prediction of actual brightness. Projector quantity, alignment and coverage require site testing.
CREATIVE / PRODUCTION / DELIVERY

From the first idea
to the final frame.

Light Art can bring the complete experience together, including creative direction, custom animation and the projection system.

Creative & content
Story, visual design and a bespoke projection film, developed for the Golden Egg.
Production & installation
Projectors, mapping and playback, alignment, site preparation and the agreed installation.
Presentation & operation
Equipment, support and operating arrangements matched to the agreed show dates and hours.

Each estimate is shaped by the content, number of projectors, site requirements and presentation period. A tailored budget can be developed after the scope and site arrangements are confirmed.

05 / THE TECHNOLOGY

Light with
colour in mind.

For a landmark as distinctive as the Golden Egg, colour is part of the experience. Our starting point is high-output Epson 3LCD laser projection, with colour light, fine detail and the digital signal path considered together.

Rated white and colour light output

Epson EB-L30000U30,000 lm

Rated white and colour light output · option

Manufacturer ratings in normal mode: colour light output measured to IDMS 15.4 and white light output to ISO 21118. Actual brightness depends on settings, lens, surface and site conditions; the final equipment plan is subject to testing.

A 3LCD optical system separates light into red, green and blue, modulates each colour with its own LCD panel, then recombines the channels into one image.

DETAIL / 4K ENHANCEMENT

More detail.
Beautifully resolved.

Epson’s 4K Enhancement uses pixel shifting to enhance image detail beyond the projector’s native WUXGA panel resolution. The final settings will be tailored to the content, mapping and site.

SIGNAL / NVIDIA GPU

A direct path.
From pixels to light.

Our proposed playback system sends the mapped image directly from an NVIDIA GPU to the projector, avoiding a separate external video processor. Connection format and signal integrity will be confirmed in testing.

4K Enhancement and curved-surface mapping

The EB-L25000U uses native 1920 × 1200 WUXGA panels. Epson states that turning on 4K Enhancement cancels its internal Scale, Curved Surface, Point Correction and Corner Wall adjustments. GPU-based mapping may provide an alternative; input format, enhancement mode and geometric alignment require a practical test. Epson L25000U user guide ↗

WHY COLOUR LIGHT MATTERS

One image.
Two possibilities.

White brightness alone does not describe how much light reaches the colours in an image. Move the control to explore a simplified colour-light example.

The same concept image is shown on both sides. The right side is digitally adjusted to reduce colour components while leaving neutral whites and greys unchanged. It is not a photograph, measurement or comparison of actual projector models.

Some single-chip DLP designs can have lower colour output relative to their white rating. DLP also includes three-chip and RGB-laser designs; actual colour performance depends on the specific projector and mode.

06 / THE NEXT STEP

From possibility
to reality.

A meaningful experience begins with a clear view of the venue. Together, we can shape the creative direction and test what is possible on the Golden Egg.

What is the proposed projection surface?

Our starting point is the side facing the water. Coverage and the best audience viewpoint will be confirmed against the actual site.

Can one projector cover the Golden Egg?

One or more projectors may be appropriate. Overlapping projectors can build brightness on the same area, while a different arrangement may be needed to extend coverage. We will assess the surface, throw distance, focus, lighting and sight lines before confirming the equipment plan.

What happens at a site test?

A proposed proof of concept would let the team examine projection on the gold surface, including visibility, focus and colour under actual lighting conditions. Scope and cost are to be agreed.

Can the concept expand to other sides?

Wider or 360° coverage can be explored as an additional option, subject to suitable equipment positions, unobstructed sight lines and a separate technical assessment.

LET'S CREATE A SHARED MOMENT

Let's bring the
Golden Egg to life.

We would love to explore the story, the site and the possibilities together.
